Nice set of headlights..

The halogen headlights with integrated signals showed up today, did a quick test fit and they look like they’ll work. I’ll be honest, not totally in love with the build quality, or the fact the LED circuit board is visible, but they’ll work for now. At the very least, they’ll work as good placeholders for putting the car back together.

The photos show the original headlight on the left and the new one on the right.

In other news, met with my friend Steve at breakfast this morning, ended up talking with him at length regarding the chassis, got sent some really good info (in the form of a rather long PDF file).. got some reading to do!

If the circuit boards are going to be exposed to the elements (even slightly), then I would suggest spraying the boards with conformal coating. You can get it in a spray can, and apply it like paint. I typically hate conformal coat, because if you have to work on the board, it’s a bitch to clean off, but I wouldn’t think that would be a concern here. I would just suggest making sure it doesn’t come in contact with the back of the headlights at all, since I’m sure the heat would burn it off and make a terrible smell 😉

The auto suppliers often use it to protect circuits inside modules, especially if they think there is a chance moisture will make it into the module.

I’m already considering returning this set, actually. I was digging around one of the US Morgan spare parts sites, seems some of the other exterior lighting sets may be a lot cheaper than expected, so I might convert those into LED signals and get a proper glass-lensed set of halogen headlamps, we shall see…

What do you know, my name in print! I hope you got something out of the info.
